Client Background
Zippertubing is a U.S.-based manufacturer of cable management and EMI shielding solutions. Their customers include large enterprise buyers as well as DTC customers through Amazon. They previously used a custom PHP site but wanted to modernize and streamline their online operations.
Problem
The client needed to migrate their legacy ecommerce platform to Shopify without losing the flexibility required for enterprise sales. They required custom workflows for quotes, bulk pricing, and product variants, while keeping things intuitive for smaller orders and Amazon buyers.
The Solution
We designed and developed a new Shopify site that supports a hybrid B2B and DTC buying experience. The new platform includes customizable product templates, conditional call-to-actions (Buy, Quote, or Amazon), and powerful metafields for scalable product data management. We also planned and executed a phased product upload process and ensured all legacy URLs redirected cleanly to the new structure.
Challenges
- Complex product data requiring flexible metafield structure
- Bulk pricing logic outside Shopify’s native capabilities
- Supporting three purchase flows per product (Buy, Quote, Amazon)
- Migrating and mapping legacy URLs for SEO preservation
- Designing templates to support a wide range of technical specs
Approach
- Discovery & Planning: Reviewed the legacy site, business needs, and technical constraints.
- Design Phase: Built and refined custom page templates for capabilities, industries, and products.
- Product Architecture: Developed a flexible metafield system to accommodate product-specific data and logic.
- Quote Functionality: Integrated a form with conditional display and PrintJS for enterprise quote requests.
- Development: Implemented custom PDPs with tabbed specs, video support, and alternate CTAs.
- Data Migration: Developed CSV-based workflows and subset testing for product uploads.
- QA & Launch: Configured redirects, refined collection filters, and ensured site readiness for public launch.
Results
- Fully migrated from custom PHP to Shopify
- Enterprise quote requests with print-ready submissions
- Bulk pricing displayed dynamically
- Integrated “Buy on Amazon” fallback
- Fully responsive, SEO-optimized design
- Easier internal product management via metafields
